Skip Hire FAQs
We’ve tried to make booking a skip hire service online easy; if you’ve got any questions…
At The DP Group we want to make the process of hiring a skip online as easy and hassle-free as possible for our customers. If you plan to place your skip on your driveway or in your garden, you will not need a permit. However, if you intend to place your skip on a public road, you will need to obtain a permit from the relevant council body. As part of our skip hire service, we take care of this process for you, ensuring that your skip is delivered with the necessary safety lights and cones – safety first!
Please note that the cost and notice required for obtaining a skip permit may vary depending on the council in the area. Below are the prices and working days notice required for the areas we cover:
- Stoke on Trent Council: £90 – 3 working days notice
- Staffordshire Council: £90 – 5 working days notice
- Cheshire Council: £130 – 5 working days notice
- Shropshire Council: £200 – 10 working days notice

Various options, from mini skips (like our 2-Yard Skip or our 4-Yard Skip) to 40-yard roll-on-roll-off skips, are available to suit your requirements for any kind of home improvement, general tidy up or work in the garden – Choosing the right size skip depends on how much waste you dispose of, and that can be hard to calculate.
A mini skip might be sufficient for small projects, such as garden clearance or DIY jobs, whereas more extensive projects, such as home refurbishments or construction sites, may require a larger skip. If your in doubt, our team of skip-hire experts can advise you on the best skip size for your project based on the type and amount of waste you have. By choosing the right size skip, you can save time and money by avoiding the need for multiple trips to the tip!

Description
The 8 yard enclosed skip is The DP Group’s most popular lockable skip option for trade, commercial and landlord use across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire. With a fully enclosed structure and lockable lid, it keeps your waste contained, protects it from the elements and deters unauthorised access and fly-tipping — making it the right choice whenever a skip will be on site for several days or placed in a visible location.
What is an 8 yard enclosed skip used for?
The lockable lid makes this skip particularly well suited to:
- Trade placements — builders, contractors and tradespeople who need a skip on site throughout a project
- Landlord and property clearances — between tenancies or on larger void properties where the skip may be unattended
- Commercial fit-outs and office clear-outs — where waste needs to be secured overnight or over weekends
- Roadside placements — where an open skip would be more exposed to unauthorised waste being added
- Extended hire periods — up to 14 days, with the option to discuss longer periods with the team
- Mixed waste renovation projects — full house refurbishments generating a variety of waste types
Please note: the 8 yard enclosed skip requires easy site access due to its size. If access is restricted, a permit for highway placement may be required — The DP Group can arrange this on your behalf. Dimensions: 5’9″ high × 11’3″ long × 5’7″ wide.
Enclosed skip vs open skip — which do you need?
An open skip is fine for most short-term domestic projects where the skip will be loaded and collected within a few days. An enclosed skip makes more sense when:
- The skip will be on site for a week or more
- It will be placed in a location visible from the street
- You are concerned about fly-tipping or unauthorised waste being added
- The project is trade or commercial rather than domestic
- Weather protection for the waste is important
If you are not sure which is right for your project, compare the options across our skip range or call us on 01782 551 222 and the team will advise:
- Smaller jobs or domestic clearances → 2 yard mini skip or 3 yard skip
- Kitchen, bathroom or garden projects → 4 yard midi skip with drop door
- Heavy construction waste → 8 yard builders skip
- Larger enclosed requirements → 12 yard enclosed skip or 16 yard enclosed skip
How to book your 8 yard enclosed skip online
Booking takes just a few minutes. Choose your delivery and collection dates, enter your postcode and confirm your drop-off location. If the skip needs to go on the public highway, a permit is required — we arrange this on your behalf as part of the booking process.
Klarna is available at checkout alongside debit and credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Next-day delivery is available across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire subject to slot availability.
Trade accounts
If you are a trade customer, contractor or property manager with regular skip hire requirements, The DP Group offers a trade credit account — making it easier to manage multiple bookings and invoicing in one place.
