What you can & can’t put in a skip from a home clearout!

At The DP Group, we’ve organised a comprehensive guide to help you decide what items to place inside your skip, room by room. This way, you can seamlessly manage your home-clearing project in Stoke-on-Trent without encountering any setbacks or pesky extra charges!

Living Room

✔ Furniture – Wooden, plastic, and metal furniture can be safely deposited in your skip.
✖ Sofas – Upholstered furniture like sofas, classified as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) – we can accept, but require you to click the extras on the skip booking page.
✖ Batteries – Hazardous due to their metal and chemical content, batteries should not be included in your skip.
✖ TVs – Hazardous waste due to toxic chemicals like lead and mercury, TVs should not be added to the skip.
✖ Plasterboard – Avoid including plasterboard and gypsum waste in your skip – we can accept, but require you to click the extras on the skip booking page.

Bathroom

✔ Fixtures – Ceramics-based fixtures are suitable for skip placement.
✔ Tiles – Inert waste-like tiles poses no issue when disposed of in a skip.
✖ Medical Waste – To prevent infection and contamination risks, medical waste should not be placed in the skip.
✖ Fluorescent Tubes – Skip these, as fluorescent tubes contain hazardous mercury.

Kitchen

✔ Gas Cooker – Gas appliances can be confidently placed in the skip.
✔ Fittings – Wooden, metal, and plastic fittings are permissible for skip disposal.
✖ Electrical Appliances – It’s recommended to take electrical appliances to WEEE recycling facilities.
✖ Fridges/Freezers – These electrical items should be recycled through WEEE recycling facilities – we can accept, but require you to click the extras on the skip booking page

Bedroom

✔ Carpet – Polyester carpets without recycling potential can be added to the skip – we can accept, but require you to click the extras on the skip booking page
✔ Mattress – Skip-friendly, mattresses can also be included.
✖ Light Bulbs – Hazardous waste materials, such as light bulbs, should be kept out of the skip.
✖ Electrical Goods – All electrical items should be directed to WEEE recycling facilities.

Garage

✔ Wood – Wooden planks are approved contents for your skip rental.
✔ Gas Cylinders – Return reusable/refillable gas cylinders to the supplier or point of purchase.
✖ Vehicle Batteries – Classified as hazardous waste, vehicle batteries must not be placed in skips.
✖ Tyres – Proper disposal of tires is essential; they should not find their way into the skip – we can accept, but require you to click the extras on the skip booking page

Garden

✔ Tree/Hedge Trimmings – Green waste like trimmings can be safely deposited in your skip.
✔ Bricks – Unwanted bricks can be safely added to the skip for disposal.
✔ Soil & Rubble – Commonly disposed of in skips, soil and rubble pose no issue.
✖ Chemicals & Pesticides – Skip placement for hazardous waste like chemicals and pesticides is not advisable to ensure proper disposal.
