Skip hire on the edge of the Chase

The towns around Cannock Chase have a lot in common: plenty of family homes with gardens, a steady stream of renovation work, and a lot of garden waste. Our lorries run down from our yard in Longton to cover the whole area.

Garden waste: the most common job round here

With so many homes backing onto green space, garden clear-outs are the job we’re asked about most in this area. A few tips:

• Soil, turf and rubble are heavy. A 4 yard midi skip is often the right size for a heavy garden job, because a bigger skip can go over its weight limit before it’s full.
• Branches, hedge cuttings and old fencing are light and bulky, so they fill a skip quickly. For a big garden overhaul, an 8 yard builders skip gives you room to work.
• Break things down as you go. Flat-packed fencing and cut-up branches take up far less room than whole panels and limbs.

Permits in Staffordshire

All of these towns are in Staffordshire, so if your skip has to go on the road you’ll need a Staffordshire County Council permit, which needs five working days’ notice. Choose ‘On the Road’ when you book and we’ll apply for it, lights and cones included. On your own driveway, no permit is needed.

In Lichfield’s city centre, many period homes have little or no off-road parking. If that’s you, plan ahead for the permit, or think about whether a smaller skip on a neighbour’s drive (with their permission) would be easier.

What can’t go in the skip?

Most household and garden waste is fine. The things we can’t take in a skip include asbestos, gas cylinders, batteries, chemicals and paints, fluorescent tubes, TVs and monitors, and electrical appliances. Soft furniture, carpets, plasterboard, tyres and fridges can go in at an extra charge, so let us know when you book.
